It feels like a count down. The contractor is calling me tomorrow with a start date. It could be is early as next Monday. It's funny Michael and I have discussed a lot of possibilities for the house now we are a that place where you just gotta choose. Interestingly, as we have talked options to death, we know what they are and now we're just making some choices.
First up was the windows. this is how it breaks down:
All Anderson windows.
2 - 400 series double casement
CW25 (60h x 56w)
for front of house on the first and second floors
1 - 400 series awning combination
AN21-32 (41h x 72w)
this is a three over three louver style casement window for the dormer that faces the street.
1 - 400 series triple-wide double-hung
TW2032-3 (41h x 77w)
this is for the rear dormer of the attic. We chose the sash windows mainly because, as it is an attic/bedroom, putting a window AC unit in a sash is far less complicated.
We've also got this notion of a front door. This is what we're thinking, a flat panel exterior gray steel fire door. In this door we install a small port hole and a mail slot. The door will be painted and in the fantasy, we repaint it on a regular basis to be the "art" on the front of the house. The logic is, since the rest of the house is going to be so pale in Hardie Plank it might be nice to have a dash of color.
From all we can read installing a port hole or mail slot in the door really isn't that big of a deal. Most of the sites say that you can use a reciprocating saw with a hack blade to do the cut outs. I still want to investigate techniques more but I'm already excited about the oh so custom door.
