The first piece of the oak boardwalk went in today. I can assuredly now say I have no fear (hind sight of course) about the oak and cedar bickering with each other. I think the tones and grains have enough similarities and differences that they work. Tomorrow they will do the cross walk in the dining room; over to the right in this photo.
They're also slated to lay down the kitchen pieces tomorrow, finally covering the last bit of green marble you can barely see peeking out here. That includes the large step up to the stairs. Very exciting times!

How much higher than the existing floor is the boardwalk? In the photo it looks considerably built up over the living room floor -- but not so much in the photo of the kitchen floor from last week.
Carry on!

That's kind the whole point of the boardwalk; to visually unify the entire run of the house. It plumbs all of the different levels that happen from front to back in the house.
Some places are more of a step than others. Stepping off into the dining room will be about a four inch step. Stepping of into the kitchen will be around an inch.
Like I've said before, the only people who really see it so far are Michael, me, and, he typed hopfully, Luis the guy who's installing it ;-)

Aah!
I didn't realize how horizontally challenged your joint was -- now I get it.
